1000 cranes for Japan!

I've been really meaning to do this blog post for a while! I was waiting until I could wear the earrings, because my ears closed up since I hadn't been wearing earrings and I had to poke them back through. I had to wait until they were more healed. I finally took the pictures and found a minute to do the blog entry. Only 2 weeks of school left, though. So, I should be able to post a lot more in the summer. Anyway, to the actual point of the entry. My wonderful Japanese teacher decided to start saving up money and collecting donations for Japan since the earthquake. In honor of every donation she or one of the students that volunteered to help her would make a paper crane and let the person who donated write a message to Japan. For every dollar donated, we made one crane. We hope to send Japan 1000 cranes and 1000 dollars (1000 cranes are good fortune in Japan). It seems we've been collecting donations for a very long time. My Japanese teacher spent so much of her own time and effort to her 1000 cranes project. She is very good with clay and learned you could make clay cranes, so she did. She worked and worked and sold many clay cranes and didn't take any money for her effort in making them. All the profit she made went to our donation fund to go to the Japanese Red Cross. I donated, of course, and absolutely adored the work my favorite teacher was doing to help others in another country.

This is an up close picture of my crane necklace that she made for me, because she knows I like pink, and I was overjoyed to buy the necklace and the earrings and am over joyed with what she's doing.

I know my ear looks a little red here, but as soon as I could get the earrings in to take the picture, I did it! This is my left side crane earring that matches my necklace. I thought the ideas for donation that my teacher came up with were wonderful and creative and the clay cranes really started bringing in a lot of money. We're already have past our goal. That's right, we raised over 500 dollars. That's pretty great for such a small school in a small town. Just shows if all schools did the same we could make a real difference! I know a lot of you wish you went to my school now so you could get your hands on some adorable clay crane jewelery, while helping Japan in the process! As far as I know right now she isn't making any to sell online, but who knows with enough people interested. Though, everyone should understand that she needs her free time too and already invested a lot of her time into this, very selflessly I might add! We salute such an amazing teacher, and I personally think she should receive an award. I'll wear my cranes proudly, knowing I helped make a difference and you can too!

That's it for now! so I'll sign off, bbfn! See you next time!

Challenge- Tell me what you or your school might be doing to help out Japan. People that selflessly help others make the world a better place!

Transcendentalism and the Lolita

The image comes from here!
I felt very fired up to write this entry ever since 6th period English, when we read a short essay with the student teacher in the transcendentalism unit. The essay was called, "Self-Reliance" by Ralph Waldo Emerson, who is known to be the founder of transcendentalism. Stay with me here~!  I know it sounds a bit boring and complicated, but it's very interesting and the essay was only almost two pages in our literature book. I suggest you read it! The transcendentalists had some fascinating ideas. What had me interested and ecstatic, even, about this essay was how much it reflected on my own philosophy and my love of lolita, of course. All I could think of was lolita and the bravery of lolitas when I read it. Before I read it there was an assignment that had to do with transcendentalism, we had to write about a time when we stood out and the first choice for me to write about, was of course, wearing lolita.  The essay basically says, you should always be true to yourself, no matter what that is and who cares what anyone else thinks! I'd like to think something he says would be like saying, "Dance like no one is watching" that's not exactly what he said, but thats a bit how I interpreted it. Though, maybe it's more like, "Dance like everyone is watching, but you just don't care." He says in his essay that people are more themselves when they are alone, but they should try to be that self all the time. An interesting thing he says is, "Imitation is suicide." I didn't get it at first, not really until the student teacher explained it, but it;s an interesting concept I wanted to point out. he's basically saying, when you try to become someone else, the you that your are starts to disappear and in a way that's like committing suicide and killing the you that you had been instead of being proud of it and true to yourself. Another thing is, he said something that basically meant, there are people who put so much care into what other people think of them that they say, "I can't do/say/dress like that, what will people thing?" Sound familiar? I know many people who won't be a lolita, no matter how much they like it, because of what other people might say and think. Obviously, us lolitas are very much like the transcendentalists. We don't care what other people think and do what we love, because we love it. I think it's a wonderful way to think and live. I was so glad we were learning about it in class. You can find the essay here, I recommend it to anyone. It may not be something you like, but I happen to love the way of thinking that he implies in it. I lost many of the things I wanted to say on the train of thought from 6th period to now, sadly, but nevertheless I got out most of what I wanted to say. I'm very glad to have read this essay and maybe have discovered many people who think similarly to the way I think. I felt so fired up to do this, like I do whenever I think of a really interesting blog topic. Something that really hits me, good or bad. I really do hope I can post more often very soon. Thank you fro reading my pretties! I hope I may have helped you learn something new!

That's it for now! so I'll sign off, bbfn! See you next time!

Hair, Hair, and More Hair (and a bow too!)

I love hair, it's my favorite thing to change and play with. I'm pro good lolita wigs to style and make pretty to the highest degree and keep your hair perfect all day! I would rather buy a wig than dye my hair if I wanted a different look. Though, as for this particular hair style, it's my real hair. I'm yet to invest in a good lolita wig, but I've been looking at them and researching them. I'd love to hear some of your input on wigs. Sites to order them from, reviews? I'd love to see! Anyway, I was bored last Saturday and wanted to try following a hair tutorial by the wonderful Shelby Cloud of youtube. Her hair is longer than mine, so her style looks a bit different in the video, but it's a very easy to follow tutorial and it requires little hair experience or hair materials. I kept the look simple and blocked out my face so everyone could focus on the hair style. I was very proud of how it turned out. It's a quick and easy style that I would do everyday if I got up a little earlier on a daily basis. The dress is from bodyline and so is the bow. I plan to save my feelings about brand versus bodyline/offbrand for another post. This is all about the hair. All I needed to do this hair style was a curling iron, hair, two think ponytail holders, and hair pins. If you try this hair style too please send me a link to your finished product. I'd love to see how cute you all look. You may have noticed I'm also not wearing a blouse. I was only dressed up simply to stay at home. I would have worn a blouse, but the one I had in mind is in the wash. Besides, it's been hot in my house since it started getting cold outside, we've cranked up the heat! Have you been experiencing the same change? So far I'm starting this blog with small entries, but I hope to really get into in depth topics once I get the ball rolling and gather some momentum! Blogging so far, has been a blast.

Also, see the bow in my hair? I've had it for a while and I finally learned how to wear it! I can be a little slow. I thought the secret to getting it to stay up and look good was in the comb, but I realized once I put it on that it's all in the ribbon. If you having the same problem, than I'll walk you through it. When I was having trouble putting the bow on myself, I didn't find anything online that could help me with this little problem. The bow has a comb on the bottom and a ribbon on the sides of the comb. What you want to do is sit the bow comfortably on your head the way you want it, don't worry too much about the comb, that just makes it harder. Than, either tie the ribbon behind your hair or have someone do it for you. Tie it fairly tight and secure and it should stay on!

Challenge- Try the hairstyle tutorial if you can! I'd love to see how it turns out~

Good Morning!

Time to blog! Hello! I'm very excited to get this blog started. I got the idea for the opener from my favorite blog Lolita Charm I thought the picture on it was very cute. So I used a really old picture my friend took on a kinda low quality camera than I blingee-fied the picture and made it my MSN picture. I've been wanting to start a blog for a while and I finally felt the push to do so yesterday, so I did. It isn't morning, but school didn't close today like I thought it was going to. I was gonna start the blog in the morning, but I didn't have time and I really wanted to get started today. I figure it must be morning somewhere right?

Who am I? Just a simple girl. I love Sweet Lolita, I especially love to push the envelope with OTT Sweet Lolita, I find it so very cute. I'm also a lifestyle lolita! I'm very cheerful and nice so feel free to comment, say hi and join me on my journey with Little Cup of Lolly. On the topic of the name you may be thinking, 'lolly?' Well I prefer abbreviating lolita as 'lolly' rather than 'loli' I've always done it. I feel like just because everyone else abbreviates it a different way doesn't make the way I want to abbreviate it wrong, it's just different. I don't see may people abbreviate it as 'lolly', but you'll see me do it through out the blog. I'd love for you to tell me how you abbreviate it, do you stray from the pack and do it as I do?

That's it for now! so I'll sign off, bbfn! (bye bye for now) See you next time!

Challenge- Comment a few things about yourself on this entry! I'd love to know who's reading!
