POUPEE CRAZE!~

I got my poupee account a long time ago, but didn't get into it until today. I know many many lolitas have been crazy about poupee for a long time, but I seem to just be getting obsessed. I uploaded a couple of my dresses and already have so many sweet compliments on them, and quick. Most sites aren't like that. On some sites I may get a comment on a picture I worked hard on in about a week, but in less than an hour I have more than 5 comments on poupee. The community is unbelievably active and friendly and it's such a joy to look at al the cute things people have in their closets! I'm feeling all the love and happiness  I get from poupee and I wonder why I didn't get more into it long ago. What a wonderful community to be apart of! I just bought a kitty doll, you could see it if the birdy wasn't in front of it! I'm in a very happy mood and even though it's 3:30 am, I couldn't feel more awake and energetic! Seeing all the wonderful things that poupee has to offer certainly helped with that! I just had to blog, I've been wanting to all day and I'm glad I found a topic! I wish more online communities could be like poupee! I hope to spoil my avatar and buy her a lot of nice things~ Please add me as a friend!  (link to my room provided on the "me") I'm having so much fun! Transcendentalism and the Lolita

I felt very fired up to write this entry ever since 6th period English, when we read a short essay with the student teacher in the transcendentalism unit. The essay was called, "Self-Reliance" by Ralph Waldo Emerson, who is known to be the founder of transcendentalism. Stay with me here~!  I know it sounds a bit boring and complicated, but it's very interesting and the essay was only almost two pages in our literature book. I suggest you read it! The transcendentalists had some fascinating ideas. What had me interested and ecstatic, even, about this essay was how much it reflected on my own philosophy and my love of lolita, of course. All I could think of was lolita and the bravery of lolitas when I read it. Before I read it there was an assignment that had to do with transcendentalism, we had to write about a time when we stood out and the first choice for me to write about, was of course, wearing lolita.  The essay basically says, you should always be true to yourself, no matter what that is and who cares what anyone else thinks! I'd like to think something he says would be like saying, "Dance like no one is watching" that's not exactly what he said, but thats a bit how I interpreted it. Though, maybe it's more like, "Dance like everyone is watching, but you just don't care." He says in his essay that people are more themselves when they are alone, but they should try to be that self all the time. An interesting thing he says is, "Imitation is suicide." I didn't get it at first, not really until the student teacher explained it, but it;s an interesting concept I wanted to point out. he's basically saying, when you try to become someone else, the you that your are starts to disappear and in a way that's like committing suicide and killing the you that you had been instead of being proud of it and true to yourself. Another thing is, he said something that basically meant, there are people who put so much care into what other people think of them that they say, "I can't do/say/dress like that, what will people thing?" Sound familiar? I know many people who won't be a lolita, no matter how much they like it, because of what other people might say and think. Obviously, us lolitas are very much like the transcendentalists. We don't care what other people think and do what we love, because we love it. I think it's a wonderful way to think and live. I was so glad we were learning about it in class. You can find the essay here, I recommend it to anyone. It may not be something you like, but I happen to love the way of thinking that he implies in it. I lost many of the things I wanted to say on the train of thought from 6th period to now, sadly, but nevertheless I got out most of what I wanted to say. I'm very glad to have read this essay and maybe have discovered many people who think similarly to the way I think. I felt so fired up to do this, like I do whenever I think of a really interesting blog topic. Something that really hits me, good or bad. I really do hope I can post more often very soon. Primrose Path

Happy Afternoon! I hope your all having a very good week so far. I would have liked to have more blog posts by now, but I've been awfully tied up with school and my current work with a collaberated story! That's what this blog entry today is about, the story is called Primrose Path. The name comes from Shakespeare's Hamlet. For our purposes it means, "The pleasant route through life." As they say in the link I provided. It can also mean, "The road to self destruction." or "To be decieved." I think it's best to let people interpet it how they wish, it's more fun that way! The Primrose Path is a story of two lolitas who live in England. I won't spoil too much, but it is to be made into a webcomic by Susu (My best friend and "business partner") and myself. We're also writing it together, we have certain characters we control and we send it back and forth. It's very fun. It will appear here on smackjeeves and is likely to start being drawn around springtime. I hope I can get many lolitas to read it and enjoy the story. It's very much about being in a western lolitas (Or any lolitas) shoes. They have there own problems, but lolita is like an escape from those problems into a different reality and makes the main characters, Emily, a sweet lolita, and Odette, a classic lolita, very happy. Many people around are unaccepting and intolerant of lolita and do and say some pretty harsh things, that I'm sure most of us have heard. It's a realistic stories that capture first hand what it's like to be a lolita and just an everyday person. Though lolita is a big part of the story, the story line is about the lives of the girls in the clothes and lolita isn't all the story is about. Both Susu and I are very excited to start drawing it and we've planned it out and written out many chapters already. If your interested please stick with us and read about the lives of the two lolitas, we'd really appriciate it. I thought this would be the perfect thing to blog about, since it's whats been taking up my time lately. I personally always think how much I'd love to see more lolitas in literature and things like that so I'm excited that maybe many others wanted that to and will be very happy to read The Primrose Path. For those of you that like sweet love stories and a bit sadness, maybe the occasional bit of forbidden love, The Primrose Path has this along with a lot of cute lolita fashion. It's our labor of love and we hope you'll love it too.

Lolita Checklist! Things to do (in lolita)

Hello my pretty frilly followers! I was just thinking today, as I braved the mud and wind with my frills and pigtails blowing in the breeze, what all I've done while in lolita that made me feel more confident and brave in it. I thought I'd make a list of things every lolita should or might end up doing if she wears lolita everyday or just regularly.

~Go out in the rain! Maybe to get to school or the store to run an errand


If you need to do this it may help to have a cute umbrella and maybe a cute poncho. I wore a head thing that tied under my chin to protect my curled hair style.  


~Go out when it's muddy


Be VERY careful. It's been so muddy here lately and hard to avoid. I suggest black mary janes. Nothing expensive or light colored as far as shoes. 


~Go out in the snow!


People who live somewhere that it doesn't snow may not have to worry about this, but the melting snow here is why it's been so muddy. I've had to go out in the snow before, in the winter it's unavoidable. I said something in an earlier blog entry about what to wear in the snow. One thing I remember suggesting is the wooden bottom shoes to keep your feet above the snow. Try not to walk in deep snow still and walk where it's frozen if your feeling adventurous and think you can walk atop it. 


~Go out in the dead of night!


Be careful and make sure you have a buddy and a small pepper spray on your cute keychain filled key chain holder.


~Go to school


This one is a little different than the others, but sometimes people have to go to school and can't bare to leave there lolita. This is wonderful to do if you have bloomers on. Not so comfortable with no bloomers at all. I plan to get into that another time. 


~Go to the store/fast food place/restaurant


Gotta eat and buy tea eventually. It isn't like we stay inside all day right~? You may get stares and such things, but who doesn't expect that? Just be prepared! 


~Go out in freezing cold!


Bundle up!


~Go out in very hot weather!


Gotta have that fan and parasol!!!

What "Not" to Wear

You may be familiar with the show. I saw it accidentally once and to be honest, I didn't like how the show conducted itself. I'd watch it every now and again, when it was on, to see the unique and original things people wore before they let the so called "fashion police" completely take away all of their creativity. What's really sad is that it was the family that "sold them out" to the show. It's not always too horrible, sometimes the people don't cry. Sometimes. If you've seen the show, people who want to keep their clothes and stay the way they are are treated badly. I've seen numerous unique styles and they didn't want to be changed. They were attached to their creative fashion and were a quite upset about them actually throwing the clothes they may have worked ahrd to collect, into the garbage! We, as lolitas, can especially identify with that. I actually thought about writing a post about this show before and only say about this much. I used to think I could say, Just imagine if they saw one of us.  I figured they would try to tear us to shreds. Now I don't have to imagine. I actually accident;y came across a little artical about the "What Not to Wear" people actually getting their hands on a lolita! Considering I new what they did on the show I was fairly outraged. We know it's different, but we wouldn't spend all that money on it if we didn't like it! Who are they to ever tell us we can't wear lolita!? Because it's different? Excuse us for not being an exact clone of every other person in America. Excuse us for liking to be a little different. I did a little research, just to see what happened to the poor girl. I found a few videos on youtube, excuse the quality.

In this video alone, which is the first one I looked at, I was pretty shocked, every second was hard to watch. First of all, it starts off with how happy she is with how she looks. That should be all that matters, case closed. The "fashion police" of course wouldn't think so though, would they? She has to look like a clone of every other person around her in their eyes. Something that won't cause others to look up from their grey tented world. They go on an insult rampage throughout the entire thing and in this video she is so surprising collected. I know many lolitas who would be either kicking and screaming, on the floor, if you tried to through away their very very expensive brand. ALL OF IT. All they worked for. I know others who would just punch them square in the face because, "No one touches their brand." I can't believe this girl let them throw away all of her clothes! She seemed to have quite a collection. They made very little since in quite a few of their statements. They said something along the lines of, your 30, think of words that rhyme with 30, "Flirty" and "Dirty" and yet they made obvious and offensive, not to mention judgmental comments about lolita seeming very "sexual". They also said she either looked like a young girl or a grandma. Since when are either of those looked upon as "sexual icons" anyway! (To be honest I don't like to use "that" word or speak about things relating to them at all, but I feel like I have to in this case!) They make many comments about she's too old for it, when they have no no clue about the fashion. Not only that, but most of it's followers aren't very little girls, almost none are because the clothes are so expensive it's mostly people in their late teens and in their 20's. I honestly felt like they were trying as hard as they could to pull as many insults out of the fashion as they could. They say she doesn't dress her age, yet she was dressing her age for lolita! Imagine if she was a sweet lolita/OTT sweet lolita like me! What would they say than? If it were me nothing because I would ignore them, and I would never let them touch my wardrobe. If they did it would be illegal and they would be sued. Doesn't it make you twitch a little when Stacy makes the generalization that "It only works as a costume if your a grown up." Their insensitivity and lack of creativity continues to astound me.  She seems to also think it's only okay for people in Japan to wear lolita and that simply isn't true. If she thinks it's okay for the Japanese why isn't it okay for an American? I wish Lexa asked her that question. You could also read the comments to get some more pretty well thought out opinions.

I watched this video next. That's when I thought, that's more like it. That's a correct response. I feel so, so awful for Lexa and the loss of all that money and time and love she put into every piece of her clothes. I just hope she can get them back somehow.

Next was this very short video. Never find her style? Most people who dress lolita have found their style more than anyone else I've seen. I don't have much more to say on this video, except her lolita outfits were very cute on her.

I don't mean to attack anyone who likes the show, by any means. I'm just very upset with how this girl and most people who go on that show are treated and I was just venting~ It just is so very hard for me, as a lolita, to watch this happen to  another lolita. Throwing away her clothes and just laughing? That's just wrong. Now I just need to calm down and eat a cupcake!

~!Hello Kitty Coordinate!~

Hi again! I thought I'd show you my coordinate for the day. I did my hair the usual way, but every time I do it, it ends up looking a bit different. I'm wearing a hello kitty shirt I got for Christmas over my pink Bodyline JSK. I tied the ribbon a little lower so it would be visible. I have on 2 headbands that came in a pack I bought recently, I bought them because the pink bow one and the fake pearl ones looked cute together sitting in the pack so I'm wearing them together. They were supposed to stay together, but in all the pictures they ended up sliding apart. I have two bow clips in my bangs, that I curled because they were getting a bit to long and I didn't want to cut them right now. I'm wearing off-white tights, and mary janes. I have so many pins in my hair to keep it in place, including two cute pins that have pink shineys on them. In the second picture I decided to spice it up a little with my new ipod headphone jacket. It's so neat because the hangy downie strings are headphones that attach to my ipod in the pocket, and it's pink of course! I also have my hello kitty plushie that came in a pack of Sanrio characters for Sanrio's 50th birthday. Happy birthday Sanrio!~ I also have a hello kitty ring on, I know you can't really see it and I have my favorite silly bands, a fairy and a wand, both pink. I have a purple bangle too, because I couldn't seem to find my pink bangle. Oh! and I almost forgot my pearl necklace! It matches the ones on my headband. And of course my outrageously giant pink sunglasses I just love! What do you guys think? I was going for OTT/Deco Sweet and still casual. Have a sweet and sugary day, pretties!

Gasp! Disloyalty?! ... Maybe not!

Lately I've been spending every second of free time I've had reading various lolita blogs. Hearing other lolita's voice their opinions about certain things and give helpful tips and tricks for dressing and extending your love for the fashion beyond the clothes and applying it to lolita-esq hobbies or to making our room or even our whole world laced with a special layer of frills and our own personal touch of beautiful. It seems I may even be on lolita over load.

A lot of the topics I've read countless blog entries about getting simalar or completely different view points. I've known about lolita for a very long time and have ever since studied almost everything there is to know about it, because I was so hungry to know more and more. On a scale of Sweet to Gothic with Classic lolita being in the middle, I'd say I shoot off the scale in Sweet Lolita territory and even though it seems many lolitas are switching from sweet to classic lately and sweets becoming less well liked and practiced among much of the lolita community. I personally don't see my love of sweet ever dying out. Girly, pink, heavily decorated, and slightly childish things in fashion are what make my heart flutter. Though I'm just like any other person and I have interests that aren't all centered around one thing, I can't say most of my interets don't center around a common thing because they always seem too, but I do have the interests that seem to be the odd-balls among the rest of my interests.

Now were going to begin to get into the reason and point for this entry, my new found love for flat out fairy-kei. It brought out strange new feelings in me, one of them being disloyalty. Before I came across Fairy-kei, no fashion outside of sweet lolita really interested me much at all. I've been working up to being able to wear a lolita corridinate every single day and I've put a lot of research and effort into my love of the lolita fashion and suddenly having this itch to try something different, yet seeming to have so many simalarities to my favorite OTT sweet lolita coordinates I see, without the restriction.

That's one of the things about fairy-kei that feels so free and liberating I suppose. The cost seems greatly lower as well. When you are like me and love something so much as I do lolita, another fashion coming into your heart trying to tear you and your beloved lolita apart can be quite the scary thing. I was actually a bit terrified of how much I would like fairy-kei if I looked into it more or even tryed it. It did seem very simalar to my lolita and the things I loved about lolita just with that free of restrictions quality. Of course my new found love for fairy-kei didn't seem to change my love of lolita at all when I looked further into it, I learned my heart could love two fashions. I realised it may be like letting a new friend into your life that you fear may bridge a gap between you and your very best friend since childhood. I've always loved the modesty and morals, that for me tied in with lolita.

Ever since I found it I also appriciated the child-like innocence. Lolita seemed to give me confidence when nothing else would and brought the fairytale into my life that I despriately craved. I have learned you are by no means, less of a lolita, when you have a special place in yoru heart for a different fashion, when after all, fairies can be just as much a part of your fairytale as princesses. I don't think fairy-kei will mean as much to me as lolita has, but it will certainly hold it's own special place in my heart as I wear it as even a more casual style, on days I want a more casual look. For those of you that feel as I did in the beginning of this journal, disloyal to your beloved lolita, consider this, lolita is a style all about you and what you find beautiful and what makes you happy and the way you want to look.

Don't get swept up in all the internet drama and the "What if wearing this would make me look ita to someone else!" If you like it wear it and if your scared of what other people may think than remember the foundation of lolita or why you got into it in  the first place. It's about you and your personal beauty and if that means the occasional fairy-kei outfit, I say, YES! please go for it! Be yourself! Be so much yourself that everyone is left with an air of you even days after you leave there peresence. That's how I like to live.
 This post is a bit disorganized, but I had a sudden burst of inspiration and a break through pertaining to fairy-kei. Also, as a last minute observation. Fairy-kei seems a lot cooler on hot days of summer. So that's another time you may like wearing it. The main point of this blog was really not just about Lolita into fairy-kei, but Lolita into anything (Or maybe not even Lolita! Just anyone who has a fashion they feel strongly about.) Maybe your a Gothic lolita who feels the call and temptation of a full out gothic fashion or a classic lolita who is beginning to find mori grils or dolly style extremely charming.

 Follow your heart and don't be afraid to dive into different fashions or take your lolita on any out-of-the-box (I accidently typoed and wrote "out-of'the-bow" at first and it fit so well that I had to add that it had been a fun typo) I plan to experiment with Fairy-kei soon, though it has been a bit harder for me to find clear guidelines on than it was for me to find the do's and don't's of lolita, which I learned over and over again a long time ago. Maybe fairy-kei is just a freer fashion without such strict do's and don't's as lolita. Though the do's and don't's of lolita are just to help new lolita's make good outfits and once your a more experienced lolita I think you should begin to go outside of the box with your lolita and I plan to do a series on things in lolita that are out of the box and I love and people who push the envelope and I deeply admire. I'll post my attempt at fairy-kei as soon as I finish putting it together and than, will I tell you what I think from a wearing stand point. I'll also get more into fairy-kei itself on a different day in a different post!~

The most important thing I hope you learn here is, it doesn't make you any less of a lolita to stray a bit and be fond of other fashions!
